Our Beginnings

Our chapter had its start in 1985. We thank the ladies who had the energy to add yet another layer to their already busy days!

Our records indicate we owe a huge debt of gratitude to these founding members – Sharon Royal and Cathy McLennan. One of their first projects was a cookbook featuring great recipes for busy parents. To honour the original group TMB recently produced a commemorative 20th Anniversary Cookbook. Thanks ladies!

In the early years, the name of our group was Temiskaming Parents of Twins, but when a new member with triplets arrived it quickly became Temiskaming Parents of Multiples. In the fall of 2000, at our Annual General Meeting, we officially changed our name to Temiskaming Multiple Births to support the efforts of our national office. That year they transitioned from Parents of Multiple Births Association (POMBA) Canada to become the all-inclusive organization that it is today.

Multiple Births Canada (MBC) believes as we do that members of our organization simply must believe in our mission “to improve the quality of life for multiple-birth individuals and their families in Canada.”

Temiskaming Multiple Births is a fellowship of men and women with the common goal of “enhancing the quality of life for multiples in our community.”

  • SUPPORT is offered through regular meetings and mentorship
  • FRIENDSHIP is extended at various social functions
  • INFORMATION is made available through our resource library

Temiskaming Multiple Births is not associated with any sect, denomination, political entity or institution. Partnerships with other organizations that wish to enhance our goal are encouraged.

Temiskaming Multiple Births is a social orientated club whose members do their best to attend meetings, offer support to each other and contribute to the community we live in, in any way we are able. We cover from Kirkland Lake to Temagami, Elk Lake to Laverlochère, Quebec as well as all communities within and in outlying areas.

67 Members are required to renew their membership in November of every year. Members in good standing receive MBC membership cards, Multiple Moments (a national quarterly notebook), newsletters and access to our library.

Previous and new members requiring membership half way through the year will be pro-rated at one half of the regular renewal rate. TMB memberships cost $30.
